After the tragedy that occurred at Evergreen High School on 9/10/25, a group of moms organized to collect thank you notes for first responders in addition to notes of encouragement for HS students and staff. We asked the community to "Thank The Helpers" at Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Evergreen Fire/Rescue, Wulf Recreation Center (EPRD), Jeffco Public Schools (EHS, Wilmot Elementary, Bus Drivers, etc.) and the Evergreen Library. Within two weeks, we collected about 1900 notes from 50 locations between Evergreen and Conifer in addition to some that were mailed from other states!
EHS Student Leadership asked us to organize a gathering where they can give remarks to express their gratitude before giving the notes to helpers. This will occur at Bergen Park Church on Tuesday, October 28 at 6PM. Doors will open at 5:30PM for anyone who would like to write additional notes.
We understand that everyone grieves and processes differently. Although we have invited all helpers, not all will be in attendance. We're hoping to film remarks for any helper who would like to hear the students' words but prefer not to attend. After remarks are concluded we'll have a safe space for the community to mingle with helpers.
Please also take note that Denver7 will likely produce a continuation of our "good news story" of the students handing off the thank yous with footage captured privately at the event. Media is not invited to attend.
Here is the FB event and the MacKID event page. Please share with anyone who would like to "Thank The Helpers" in person with us at this community gathering.
