Who doesn't love pizza? My husband and son would happily have pizza a few nights a week if I would agree. Sometimes we pick up or dine in at a local favorite pizza place, other times we make them ourselves, but sometimes a change is nice. This week, we changed it up with pizza Roll Ups!
At Macaroni KID, we skip the fluff and get straight to the good stuff. No need to scroll through pages of unnecessary content — our recipes are easy to find. Now let's get cooking!
Pepperoni Pizza Roll Ups
Ingredients:
- Pizza Dough (we make our own using a bread machine, but you can buy at the store as well)
- 1 cup Marinara Sauce
- 3 oz. Sliced Pepperoni*
- 10 Slices Mozzarella Cheese
- 4 Mozzarella String Cheese Sticks
- 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
- 1/2 tsp Oregano
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- All-Purpose Flour
- *Substitute pepperoni for cooked sausage, sliced ham, veggies, or even other seasonings such as Everything But the Bagel, etc. to create your family's faves
What you do:
- Preheat oven to 400'.
- Roll out pizza dough on a floured surface into a very large, flat rectangle.
- Spread on 1/2 the marinara sauce, leaving about a 1-inch border around the entire edges.
- Sprinkle with the parmesan, oregano, and salt. Top with the mozzarella slices and half of the pepperoni.
- Remove wrapping from the string cheese and arrange each cheese stick in a line on one edge of the rolled-out dough. Starting where the string cheese is, roll the dough as tightly as you can with the string cheese ending up in the middle of the long roll. Pinch the seam to seal it up and place the seam side down.
- Use a serrated knife to slice the long roll into 1-inch pieces and put each piece in a greased 8x8 square or 12-inch round baking dish.
- Tuck the rest of the pepperoni slices into the pizza rolls with a bit sticking out.
- Leave the rolls to rise at room temperature for about 20 minutes.
- Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes, until the crust is golden and pizza rolls are bubbly.
- Serve immediately. Use the remaining marinara sauce for dipping.
