Finding an Orthodontic Home... When is the Right Time?

Voted Favorite Orthodontist by the Evergreen, Conifer & Bailey Community - MacKid Gold Daisy Winner!

By Evergreen Orthodontic Specialists, John DuRussel, MS, DDS, MS January 7, 2021

Even though most people think of pre-teens and teens when they think of orthodontics, there are good reasons your child should get an orthodontic evaluation much sooner. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends a check up with an orthodontic specialist no later than age 7. Orthodontists can spot subtle problems with jaw growth and emerging teeth while some baby teeth are still present.

What Happens at a New Patient Exam?

  • At your complimentary initial exam, you and your child will be greeted by the Treatment Coordinator. It is her job to make you feel comfortable, explain what an orthodontist does and to make your first experience fun!
  • Your child's mouth will be "scanned" with a small camera that produces a 3-D image. The kids love the technology and seeing their teeth "come to life" on the Itero screen.
  • One full mouth x-ray may be taken so that the doctor can observe how adult teeth are erupting.
  • All of this will be done in a relaxed environment as we develop a relationship with our new patient. The appointment generally lasts an hour and some "cool swag" will be given for coming in to see us.

Because patients differ in both physiological development and treatment needs, the orthodontist's goal is to provide each patient with the most appropriate treatment at the most appropriate time.

Call for a Complimentary New Patient Exam for your child or yourself. We also treat many adults in our community!  Wearing a mask is a great time to create a perfect, healthy smile! Imagine the look of surprise when you can take off your mask and flash those perfect pearly whites!!!

Happy New Year!
