As an Intuitive Life Coach, I am a catalyst for others’ change. I believe in personal transformation for everyone and that all of those who are willing to invest in their lives have the power to change their state of being in the world.
My adult and teen clients come to me for a variety of different reasons because I intuitively get to the root cause of what isn’t working in their lives. I am an expert at identifying whatever is holding my clients back, for example, limited patterns of thought, belief and action. But lately there is a common feeling among my clients surpassing all other topics right now, and it is FEAR.
FEAR is a weird feeling – it is a response to something that is out of your control, it is a response to what is unknown. But not all fear is bad, in fact, fear does have a few advantages: some fear is fun and exciting, fear allows one to stay present and focus on the task at hand, fear has the ability to motivate one into action, and it forces one to get prepared for an unknown event triggering fight or flight for safety.
But FEAR can also have disadvantages. Fear is a completely normal emotion, but when a few fearful thoughts turn into a lot of fearful thoughts, then those thoughts, over time, become a belief. And eventually that belief can hijack your personality and change how you show up in life. It can be paralyzing and limiting, keeping you stuck and disempowered.
It’s okay to be fearful at times, but when you are more focused on fear than anything else, you’ve got to do something about it.
Continually focusing on fear creates a FEAR LOOP which will only intensify the feeling and make it harder to disconnect from its bonds. A constant FEAR LOOP isn’t good for your psyche or physical health. Being in a continuous state of fear creates high levels of stress. Stress weakens the immune system, as well as compromising the cardiovascular and digestive systems to name a few.
But you don’t have to suffer in fear, you can actually do something about it – here are a few tips:
Practice Gratitude – I mean REAL gratitude. Start by looking at your life and take inventory of that which you are truly grateful. You can be grateful for big things or small things; it really doesn’t matter. You can write them down or say them out loud. Either way, practicing true gratitude will signal to the Universe that you understand the importance of appreciation and acknowledgment. And, the best part is that you can’t be in GRATITUDE and FEAR at the same time! Try it, you just can’t. So, when you are grateful, the volume on your fear loop gets turned down drastically. Developing a sense of gratitude will limit the fear loop from taking ahold of you.
UNPLUG - I mean really unplug from everything for at least 24 hours; Facebook, the news, fearful friends and family members. Give your mind a break from the negativity. It will all be there when you choose to plug back in, but for now, just unplug for 24 hours and see how your thoughts start to lighten up. If you don’t feed the fear loop it cannot sustain itself. Unplugging for at least 24 hours from ALL devices gives your mind the chance to adjust to what is going on in your life without the extra drama.
DISTRACT – Distract yourself as much as possible. Distraction should consist of healthy projects such as: meditating, cleaning out a closet, calling a friend from high school, playing with your kids, walking the dog, organizing your spice drawer, exercising – whatever it is, just distract yourself. This will help to break the fear loop. Have several “distractions” scheduled for yourself each day.
HAVE FAITH – I mean believe that everything is going to work out well. While we are all experiencing an uncertain period of time in our lives, know that everything will work out exactly as it is supposed to. Have unwavering faith that you and your family will be fine, because you will be.
