Meditation 101, PLUS Special DoTerra Giveaway!

Meditation tips from Life of Impact Coaching PLUS a DoTerra Giveaway, valued at $54

By Becky Atkinson, Life & Recovery Coach with Life of Impact Coaching September 17, 2019

In my last article, "Am I Anxious or Just Going Crazy?" I suggested you take some time out a few days a week to meditate. So, did you find 6 minutes a week to be still and just breathe? I’m sure you did. So, let’s continue with the lesson about meditation.

You can use meditation for problem solving. When you are troubled or feel an especially strong emotion, pose a question to yourself before your meditation. Some examples of questions you might ask are:

  • What is the root cause of my emotion and what might I do to solve it?
  • In which area of my life should I pay more attention?
  • Which characteristics should I develop to become more mindful, relaxed, and satisfied?
  • How can I make my work or home life more fulfilling?

Meditation Tips
Find a time and place that’s quiet and pleasant to you where you won’t be disturbed for at least 5 minutes. This can be any time of day: first thing in the morning before the rest of the crew has awakened, lunchtime at work, children’s naptime, or late at night after everyone else in the house is sleeping. Please read through the following before you start:

  • Have some quiet soothing music playing. Pandora has a yoga station and a meditation station that are both good options.
  • Relax your body, close your eyes, and have your feet planted on the floor. Find a comfortable place for your hands: either lying beside or on top your legs, or the arms of your chair.
  • Take 3 deep breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth.
  • Sit still and follow your breath. Let your thoughts and attachments rolls passed you, like twigs in a river. Or put them on an imaginary shelf for later.
  • Imagine a shower of gold flowing from the top of your head, down to your fingertips, your torso and through your legs to your feet. Imagine roots growing into the ground from your feet; this is called “grounding”. Keep this picture in your mind throughout the meditation,
  • OR
  • Imagine a bubble around you of protection. This helps keep those outside thoughts and interruptions at bay,
  • OR
  • Think of a mantra that you can say over and over in your mind to still those annoying thoughts. Try “I love ______, and ______ loves me.” Chose your own words but some suggestions are gratitude, God, Source, abundance and awareness.
  • Having set your timer beforehand for at least 5 minutes, come back to the real world slowly opening your eyes gradually and wiggling your fingers and toes. Look around you; some insight might be available to you in a new way.
  • If you prefer a guided meditation, Jennifer Lonnberg has an excellent “7 minute Quick Meditation” on her YouTube station. Click HERE.

You can also meditate while washing the dishes, folding laundry, and gardening. Whenever your mind is a “blank slate” shall we say, you are in a meditative state.

Miracles of Mindfulness:

Meditation is a form of mindfulness which is full of miracles we can experience every day. Here are but a few:

  • To be present and aware of our surroundings,
  • To nourish the object of our attention with full awareness,
  • Look deeply into the true nature of self and others,
  • Understanding; things become clear and awaken within us,
  • Transformation; we touch the healing and refreshing aspects of life in us and begin to transform our suffering into joy.

I hope this article gives you some ideas for meditations. I would love to hear your feed back or questions at becky@lifeofimpactcoaching.com.
