Neighbors Helping Neighbors ~ Mountain Resource Center Food Pantry

Leigh's Pantry is in need!

By Julie Dikken, Publisher Macaroni Kid Evergreen, Bailey & Conifer March 1, 2018

Our local Mountain Resource Center is an invaluable resource to our community. Their programs support local families and community members in so many ways. Some of the valuable programs they offer are:

  • Basic Needs: Utility Assistance, Rent/Mortgage Assistance, Food Pantry Access, Firewood/Pellets
  • Public Benefits: SNAP (Food Stamps), Health First Colorado, Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+), PEAK Online Assistance
  • Veterans Support: Employment, VA Claims and Benefits, Financial Assistance, Community Events
  • Workforce: Resume Writing, Job Search Support, Computer Classes, Small Business Resources
  • Family Education: Early Childhood Classes, Parenting Workshops, Parents as Teachers, Home Visitation Program
  • Healthy Living: Parent Leadership, Cooking Matters, Children’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Classes

This year Mountain Resource Center's Basic Needs program will see a significant decrease in available funding due to a funding priority change. This decrease will greatly effect the Mountain Resource Center's Food Pantry (Leigh's Pantry) . While Mountain Resource Center receives a significant discount to purchase quality perishable and non-perishable food from Food Bank of the Rockies, there is a cost and they still have to purchase it. (This seems to be a misperception that all food is donated and free of costs.) You may not realize that while food drives bring in many non-perishable items; fresh fruits and vegetables, along with meat and dairy products are purchased by Mountain Resource Center.

Mountain Resource Center is seeking financial support to help provide the overhead needed to ensure that they can continue to offer fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and dairy along with the actual building and personal costs associated with Leigh’s Pantry.
