Visit Keystone Kidtopia for a Memorable Family Experience

Accomodations, Adventurous Snow Tubing, Family Ski Trails, Kid Friendly Meals and More

By Julie Dikken March 6, 2014
Whether you are a skiing/boarding family or snow play enthusiasts, Keystone is a Colorado vacation spot you don’t want to miss. Our family just got back from a “mini” Keystone vacation where we experienced many of the features that Kidtopia has to offer, and for families - that is a lot of fun to experience!

Accommodations
Getting ready to book your Spring Break get-away? Maybe just a few days to escape? You may want to get on that as dates at Keystone Resort are filling up quickly! We stayed at the beautifully decorated River Run Condominiums which was a perfect fit for our family of four. River Run is conveniently located in the center of the River Run Village where everything fun is within walking distance. To start your Keystone vacation planning be sure to check for deals at www.keystoneresort.com. Don’t forget, if you stay a minimum of two nights Kids Ski Free, with no black-out dates, no lift ticket requirement for adults and is available all weekends and holidays.

Family Friendly Dining
When you plan your trip, be sure to make reservations at Der Fondue Chessel. This Bavarian style four course meal includes cheese fondue (the smoked gouda with applewood smoked bacon is a must try!), caesar salad, traditional raclette where you get to grill and broil your own food, (if you are a a bit adventurous try the Bison Sirloin and Free Range North American Elk. Yum!) and ending with chocolate fondue complete with fruit, cake and marshmallows.  Our group really enjoyed the Flaming Turtle Fondue. The kids got a kick out of roasting a marshmallow over the flame. Your family will be entertained throughout the evening with traditional Bavarian music and might just be enticed to get up and dance the Chicken Dance.

Adventure Point Snow Tubing
Another fun day or night activity not to be missed is the Winter Snow Tubing at Adventure Point. Five lanes at 11,640 feet above sea level, each offering different speeds, from fast to super fast, and depending on your preference, guides will push you off with a range of slow whirl to ultimate twirl. You have the option of linking together to go as a group or individually. The best part of Adventure Point is the state of-the-art conveyor lift that carries you and your tube back to the top. You get to save your energy for the slopes! This experience is tailored to fit every family member; from the slightly timid, to the adventurous teen, and comfortable speeds for those in between. Reservations are required to enjoy this activity and children must be at least 42 inches tall. $31 per person gets you as many runs as you can fit into one hour. Make reservations by calling (970)496-4386 or (800)354-4386. Find info at www.keystoneresort.com

Kidtopia Snowfort
Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to your next activity, because the Kidtopia Snowfort is located right outside of Adventure Point. This playground, expertly carved out of snow, features climbing areas and tunnels to slide through. I can tell you from experience that adventurous adults can play too, although it may be a tight fit crawling through! Be sure to bring your camera, you will want to take pictures of this amazing feature!

Family Skiing/Boarding

This year Keystone introduced the first-ever family ski trail - the Schoolyard. This trail engages skiers/riders of all ages. Features include: Rockin’ Rollers, Magic Moguls and more challenging terrain in the Tornado Ally. Keep an eye out for Keystone’s mascot Riperoo, you may be able to catch him next to the Epix Mix Photographers where you can have him join your family for a photo op! When you choose your runs, check the map to find Kids’ Adventure Zones. These features provide exciting excursions off the beaten path that are perfect for families.

Night Skiing
If your kids have some energy left to burn, bundle up and head out again after dinner for some more runs during Keystone’s night skiing. Keystone provides one of the longest ski days in Colorado, with many runs staying open until 8. Another night skiing family perk - if you hit the gondola lift at a busy time, families with younger kids have been known to be escorted to the front. Our kids loved that special treatment!  You can also enjoy Kidtopia’s firework show while night skiing or from the base of the mountain at Lakeside Village or River Run every Saturday at 7pm until March 29th. For Night Skiing dates and information check the schedule here.

Kidtopia Events
Kids activities take place daily at this festival designed just for them. Kidtopia Headquarters offers face painting, expeditions like "In Search of Bigfoot", "Starquest" and "Wild Wednesdays".  You will find music playing and cookie hours at Dercum Square Ice Rink. River Run Village has scavenger hunts, and times where you can meet the Avy Rescue dogs. On Saturdays the ski school kids participate in Riperoo's Village Parade which ends with a celebration at the ice rink. Kids can also paint their own pottery at Ready, Paint, Fire. There are plenty of activities sure to please everyone. For information on all of Keystone Kidtopia’s events and activities, including those not listed (there are a lot of them and many are free!) visit www.keystoneresort.com/activities/kidtopia

Keystone absolutely lives up to their promise of a family friendly vacation. Whether it is just for the day, a few nights stay or a full week vacation, Keystone Kidtopia provides something for every family member.

Although my family was provided with one night’s lodging, dinner, and one hour of tubing, this review is based solely on my family's experiences. No other compensation was given.

A publisher of Macaroni Kid Highlands Ranch, Parker, Castle Rock and Lone Tree has also written a review on Keystone Kidtopia events. To read about her experiences click here.
