You're Invited ~ Connector Trail Celebration Walk & Ribbon Cutting

Wednesday, June 3rd, Celebrate Opening of the Evergreen Lake Connector Trail

By Julie Dikken, Publisher Macaroni Kid Evergreen, Bailey & Conifer May 21, 2015
There was a day a few years back when I toted my two toddlers to the lake on a beautiful sunny day with plans to walk from Downtown Evergreen to feed the ducks by the Lake House. I got my kids and all our stuff buckled in and headed out on my journey. It was only a short walk before I hit the bottom of a huge flight of stairs. I knew about said stairs, but didn't think about how I had planned on safely getting to the top with two kids strapped into the huge stroller. I don't remember how, but I did eventually make it to the top and completed my little family stroll. The exciting news is that particular struggle will no longer be an issue once the Connector Trail is complete. Families with strollers, individuals with bikes, and people in wheelchairs will now be able to get from Downtown Evergreen all the way to the other side of the lake thanks to this long awaited project.

Moms ~ get your strollers out!
Evergreen Park and Recreation District invite people with wheelchairs, walkers and strollers to join them on Wednesday, June 3rd to be a part of the opening celebration. The walk will start after a short celebration which will begin at 5:30pm in the parking lot in front of Beau Jo's Pizza. After a ceremony to recognize the people and organizations that made this project come to life, the walk will take the community from Downtown Evergreen, across the new 200-foot bridge, and along the path to the Evergreen Lake House to participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony and enjoy the first 2015 EPRD Summer Concert of the season! (Concert starts at 6:15pm)

After the celebration, everyone is invited to stay and enjoy the free concert. Egg Planet will be playing along with Evergreen School of Music.  Pack your blankets and picnic baskets in the stroller and celebrate with neighbors and friends of the Evergreen Community. If you decide to stay and don't want to take the 3/4 mile walk back, there will be limited shuttle service back to Downtown Evergreen. (The shuttle back to Downtown Evergreen will only be available on June 3rd)

"The connector trail project was funded by a $250,000 grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) and a $30,000 contribution from the Evergreen Legacy Fund (ELF), plus in-kind donations of services and material. The Legacy Fund is derived from a voluntary 1 percent donation on sales of products and services at businesses to support infrastructure.

The project was awarded to GoodLand Construction, and work began April 13. Progress was hampered and delayed by the season's largest snowstorm, a long period of rainy weather and the discovery of an area of instability under Highway 74, but the project was completed mid-May. The trail is not yet open to the public; railings were being installed this week, and clean-up work needs to be completed." EPRD

Free concerts run every other Wednesday from 5-9pm. Remember that Lake parking is very limited with 50 VIP spots available for $15. (Call 720-880-1300 to reserve) Otherwise free shuttles will be running from Wulf Rec Center or Christ the King Church. In next week's Summer Vacation Kick-off Edition of Macaroni Kid you will find more information on this concert series in the "Local Free Concerts Guide", so stay tuned!
