Mom's Diet and How it Effects Baby ~ Breastfeeding Guide

By Sponsored Content by Carrie Edwards Photography February 26, 2015
Do you every wonder why your newborn may be fussy, gassy, not sleeping well or nursing like he or she should? Did you know what moms eat effects nursing babies? Yes, there are certain foods that may cause irritation, discomfort, gas, or intestinal irritation in babies and they should be avoided if your baby shows negative reactions to them. When drinking coffee (or soda or tea), some of the caffeine ends up in your breast milk. Babies aren't able to excrete caffeine as quickly or efficiently as adults, too much in their systems may lead to irritation, crankiness, and sleeplessness. One thing to keep in mind, it can take up to 14 days of cutting a food group completely out of your diet before it is no longer excreted into the breast milk. While what you eat does indeed change the taste and smell of your milk, that's actually a good thing, since it exposes your baby to many different flavors. But some babies can be sensitive to certain foods. You are probably asking what foods could be the culprit.

There is a wonderful Breast Feeding Food Guide by Dr. O'Connell from Newport Beach, CA This guide was shared from a very talented photographer in California and I love passing this information on to my clients.

When I schedule a newborn photo session I want the session to go as smoothly as possible. Fussy, gassy, unhappy babies makes for a very difficult session. Not only is it good to be aware of these foods a few weeks before your baby's photo session but at the very least try to avoid them 48hrs before their scheduled session. It can help your session go more smoothly.

Will this list work for every baby? No. But it works for some, and to me, that’s worth passing it on.

If you are a Mom – try it, you just might get a good night's sleep!
