Macaroni Craft: Window Cling Snowflakes

By Julie Dikken, Pulisher Macaroni Kid Evergreen, Bailey & Conifer December 24, 2014
My 12 year old daughter, who is also my amazing Macaroni Kid assistant, loves to craft. She loves all the Macaroni Kid crafts I publish, but has requested to see more that older kids might enjoy making.

We had been working on a different project using the glue gun, when she came up with this idea. With a little playing around, here is what we came up with. **Caution! As we all know, the glue gun gets hot. Younger kids will need a lot of supervision.**

What you will need:
  • Low temp glue gun
  • Glue gun sticks
  • Glitter
  • Parchment paper
  • Sharpie or permanent marker

What you will do:
  1. Draw your snowflake design on the parchment paper using a sharpie. Turn paper over (so that the sharpie doesn't bleed onto the glue)
  2. Using low temp glue gun, trace the snowflakes in glue.
  3. Sprinkle glitter on while hot.
  4. Let cool completely. You can pick off the extra glue threads, or leave them on ~ either way looks pretty.
  5. Peel off parchment paper and place on window. To get them to stick, window needs to be clean and dry. If the window is cold, we found that heating up the snowflake with a hairdryer immediately before applying helps it to stick to the window better.
