Get Fit…Feel Great! Massage: More than just a treat!

For many, the thought of a regular massage may sound like the ultimate indulgence, but for many others it’s considered “regular maintenance.”  Just like your car needs to be maintained, so does the human body.

Massage provides many benefits in addition to feeling good.  Massage physically manipulates the soft tissues of the body to make them softer.  Muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissue become “hard” and bound up for a variety of reasons.  This causes mental tension, decreased flexibility and most of all: pain.
Our muscles become tight for many reasons.  Repetitive Motion Syndrome is cause by doing the same movements over and over and causes muscle imbalance and most of all: pain.  Many professions require repetitive movements which makes it hard to eliminate the cause.  One such case was a postal worker who repeatedly reached into the back of his car to get the mail.  Think of how many times in a day that person had to twist to the back seat to grab the mail.  Another case involved a guitar player who practiced day and night.  Visualize the position his body is in while playing.  One of the biggest culprits: people who hunch over the computer all day.

Athletes are another group who would benefit greatly from massage.  Those of you who push your bodies know what I’m talking about.  Exercise is imperative for good health, but there is no denying that it can cause tightness, imbalance and pain.  Regular massage for athletes reduces spasms, facilitates muscular balance and increases blood flow which in turn reduces recovery time.

Massage Therapy physically manipulates the muscles with the intention of eliminating trigger points and softening the tissue.  A good therapist will take a thorough intake interview to learn what problems the client is aware of.  Specific techniques are choses to most effectively address individual preferences.

Relief from discomfort is often relieved in the first session.  Often, several sessions are needed to reach the deeper issues that cause the symptoms. This is the best way to experience permanent relief, especially in the case of repetitive motion syndrome.

Massage Therapy increases circulation, decreases muscle tightness, reduces mental stress, prevents injury, provides a sense of well-being, eliminates toxins and more.  Yes, it feels great, but you can rest assured there are benefits you won’t feel.
