The Great American Campout ~ June 22nd!

By Julie Dikken, Publisher Macaroni Kid Evergreen, Bailey & Conifer June 20, 2019

The best part of summer vacation is our weekend family camping trips. As the weather warms up, I can't wait to get the pop-up packed and ready to go on our first trip of the season. When I am out in the wilderness with my family, we get to enjoy connecting with one another in ways we don't get to at home. There is no laundry to fold, no steps to vacuum, leaving us with ample time to hang out. Visiting new places gives us new views of the amazing world we live in and new experiences to learn from. We may come home a bit dirty, but always refreshed and relaxed and ready to take on a new week.

Camping is fun and a great way for families to connect with nature and wildlife. Kids (and let's be honest -- parent's too) spend a lot of time on their electronic devices. Let's all pledge to spend more time outside that in, and take the time to enjoy the people and nature around us.

The Great American Campout

How to Participate:

  • Choose a spot. Your back yard qualifies. So does your favorite secret spot by the river or even a fancy campground filled with activities and clean bathrooms.
  • Choose your bed. It doesn't matter if you camp in a tent, a pop-up, a tricked out RV or even my kids' favorite ~ on the trampoline out back.
  • Take the pledge. Filling out a quick online form is all it takes. You can choose to host a public Campout, or leave it private. Either way works. Best of all, it's free!

Pack your things ~ don't forget the s'mores and the rain gear, then head on out to your favorite camping spot with your family and friends to join in the Great American Campout! Once your back be sure to share photos from your campout using the hashtag #campie (camping + selfie = campie!).
